More Milk Cookies

Welcome to the November Carnival of Natural Parenting: Kids in the Kitchen
This post was written for inclusion in the monthly Carnival of Natural Parenting hosted by Hobo Mama and Code Name: Mama. This month our participants have shared how kids get involved in cooking and feeding. Please read to the end to find a list of links to the other carnival participants.

I’m considering this a kid-friendly recipe since it helps mamas with their milk, which in effect helps babies be much happier! I recently whipped up a batch of these for a new mama friend.
And, let’s be honest, I sampled a few myself :) Seriously delicious!

The original recipe was found here, but I made a few of adjustments …

MORE MILK COOKIES

Ingredients
  • 1 C butter
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 C brown sugar, packed
  • 4 T water
  • 2 T flaxseed meal (I had flaxseeds and popped them in the Vitamix to make a powder)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 2 C flour
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1 t salt
  • 3 C oats
  • 1 C chocolate chips
  • 4 T brewer’s yeast
Directions
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix flaxseed and water and let sit for 3-5 minutes
  • Beat butter and sugars
  • Add eggs and mix well
  • Add flaxseed mix and vanilla, mix
  • Sift flour, brewer’s yeast, baking soda, and salt
  • Add dry ingredients to butter mixture
  • Mix in oats and chips
  • Roll into balls and place on cookie sheet
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes
  • Let cool on cookie sheet for a few minutes and transfer to a cooling rack

The brewer’s yeast, oatmeal, and flax seed are the magic ingredients which help to increase and sustain milk supply. So feel free to add a dash extra when you’re needing a boost. These are definitely what I consider a no-guilt treat, so have 2 … or 10! Bon apetit!

UPDATE /// Jennifer from True Confessions of a Real Mommy whipped up these cookies in a gluten free version – YUM!

  14. hobomama says

Oh, those sound sooo good. My husband made me batches of oatmeal cookies after my first birth because our midwives had told us oatmeal was a galactagogue and I don't like oatmeal in any other form. ;) Only, he heard wrong and thought it was galactaglog, so we called them glogs for short. Now…why didn't I get any after this birth? Oh, well, never too late to whip up a batch!

  15. ThatMamaGretchen says

Ha! I love it :)I didn't find out about these until a few months ago. The oatmeal is totally hidden and even though the brewer's yeast stinks during prep, you can't taste/smell it at all in the final product. Happy cookie eating!!! ________________________________
